Solo Show at Starbucks Brockville

I am the feature artist for the month of December at our local Starbucks in Brockville.  1981 Parkdale Ave., Unit D, Brockville, ON.
Stop in for your favourite seasonal beverage and have a look at the art!  My favorite these days is Peppermint Mocha!

Trent's House - Halifax

Trent's House
oil on canvas, 12x16

This painting was inspired by a photo that my son took of the view from his home in Halifax.  Apparently one of the many houses pictured belongs to his friend Trent.

Surprise Gift for Pearl!

Green Lake
oil on canvas

I have been busy painting a portrait of my late father-in-law, Jack Hodgson, trying to complete it before Christmas!
An old family photo of Jack persuing one of his favorite hobbies, fishing on Green Lake, was used to complete this surprise gift for my mother-in-law.

I can hardly wait for Christmas!

Successful Event! Women's Networking Session October 27, 2011 - Whitby, Ontario

‘Take Time to Heal’
22 X 28, acrylic on canvas
Thanks to all who purchased raffle tickets for the painting that I donated to the Youth Justice Service Division, Eastern Region Women's Networking Session!

Every year the committee chooses a fundraising recipient for the session and makes a charitable donation to that organization with hopes of assisting the work they do.  Our Regional committee chose to donate to the Heather Griffith Breast Assessment Centre in Oshawa and to the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at Kingston General Hospital.

I volunteered to be a committee member this year and wanted to contribute in a meaningful way. The money generated from the networking sessions comes from the sale of raffle tickets. Being an artist I was able to donate one of my paintings entitled ‘Take Time to Heal’.  It was donated to the fundraising effort in memory of my mother, Elsie O’Donnell, who passed away in 2005 after a long battle with breast cancer.

I accompanied my mother to some of her treatment sessions, having that experience gave me an appreciation for the work and care that Cancer Centres provide on a daily basis.  I also realized the value of having a Cancer Centre close to the community in which you live.

Two lovely quilts were also donated, along with some wonderful items that were used to create twenty-one amazing gift baskets. All were offered for raffle with advance tickets sold for the painting.  We were thrilled that our Women’s Networking Session this year raised close to $3000! It was a successful and enjoyable day for all the women who attended!

Some Recent Works

Trees continue to be the subject of choice when I head to my studio.

Admiring the landscapes that pass by while driving through the countryside, I absorb the trees and wide open skies and then later with brush in hand I intuitively recreate the collage of scenes and the imprints they've left in my mind.

A Recent Work

'the rookery'
24 X 18
acrylic on canvas

Painted on two panels this piece reflects the common habitat of the blue heron.  If you have ever encountered such a site it feels like you have stepped back into prehistoric times. The blue heron's call when flying overhead, sounds hauntingly like what I imagine a pterodactyl would sound like.

I had the wonderful experience of participating in the ‘1000 Islands Wine and Food Festival over the past two days!  This is the second year for the event in Brockville and it was a huge success, with the added features of ‘Art in the City’ and the ‘Jazz Festival’.
Kudos to Dayna Earl, Special Projects Coordinator, Brockville and District Tourism and all those who assisted with the event, for a job well done!

Special thanks to my husband, Jamie, for his continued support and for the ‘labour of love’ he provided in the construction of my display booth and to my daughter, Cait, for all her technical help and expertise.

Thanks to my friends, family and co-workers for their support and encouragement and making a special effort to attend the show.  And thanks to all of those who spent a few minutes at my booth and connected on some level with my art.
