I am one of the members of  the Brockville General Hospital Corridor Art Gallery.  We have an ongoing display in the main corridor of the BGH.  The display changes frequently throughout the year.

All of the art work is for sale and a portion of the sales goes to support the hospital.  The coordinator/curator Carol Reese does a wonderful job hanging the art work.

This is a sampling of some of the pieces that I have shown over the past year at the Gallery.

White Flag Gallery - Brockville - Grand Opening - Friday October 11, 2013

There is a buzz in the art community of Brockville! Sheila Ballantyne and George Hurst are about to open the White Flag Gallery in the Sheridan Mews, Brockville! They have transformed a wonderful heritage mill into Brockville's newest Fine Art Gallery and Gift Shop.

After much hard work they are set to open next week on Friday, October 11th.  Their Premier Exhibition 'Creative Horizons'  features abstract works by Anne Barkley and sculpture by Calvin Turner and runs from October 11th through to November 23rd.

Their lovely gallery also features Sheila's beautiful fine art as well as George's fabulous works crafted in wood.  They also have a Gift Shop featuring many hand-crafted unique items made by local artisans.  I will have some of my Encaustic work for sale in this lovely space.

I wish much success to Sheila and George on their fabulous venture with the White Flag Gallery!  So exciting to see someone's dream come true!  Bravo!

After many months of planning, promoting and taking time to create art the day finally arrived when we opened the doors of Studio #5 on the Art in the City Brockville Tour 2013 route.

Heather Savage, Mixed Media Artist
I was the guest artist with Heather Savage who graciously hosted me at her lovely gallery space.  We were pleasantly surprised at how much our works complemented each other, which made curating the space such a wonderfully delightful experience!

We thoroughly enjoy the experience of showing together and met many wonderful art enthusiasts who came out for the tour.  We found many of our visitors to be genuinely enthralled by the space and our collection of art!  So rewarding after our many months of working towards this show!

We would also like to thank my husband, Jamie Hodgson, for accompanying us on Saturday and lending his wonderful talent of playing guitar.  His performance was also enjoyed by many of our visitors, some of which danced to the beat!

A good time was had by all who stopped in over the weekend!

We were ready, set and it was definitely a go! Art in the City Brockville - Tour 2013

We had an amazing time at our Art in the City Brockville - Tour 2013 which took place on June 22 - 23 in downtown Brockville!  25 artists at 10 locations.

The entire group of 25 artists met on Friday morning and visited all studios prior to the start of the show.  Our first stop of the morning was at the Brockville Museum where 11 artists were set up, from there we proceeded to every stop on the tour.

We had a wonderful time touring all of the studio locations, viewing all of the fabulous art that was created for the tour.  It was a terrific time to visit, chat and get to know our fellow artisans and their work.  It was quite evident that we all truly appreciated the collections of  inspiring works that were created.  So exciting to see the fruits of our labour.

After the whirlwind tour we enjoyed a wonderful luncheon at J.R. Bailey Saloon hosted by my show mate - Heather Savage.

Congrats to all of the Art in the City artists for a job well done!

On Thursday, June 6th Girls Incorporated of Upper Canada had a wonderful Celebration of Women Event held at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery at St. Lawrence College!  I donated a painting entitled 'find your way home' to assist with the fund raising efforts.

Hosted by Carrie Hands the event celebrated women from our community who are making a difference.  A live auction and silent auction were held to raise money for this amazing non-profit agency who strive to enrich the lives of girls in our community empowering them to the 'Strong, Smart and Bold'.

The venue was perfect, the speeches and amazing women were inspiring!  Carrie Hands was a wonderful hostess.  A lovely time was had by all attendees.

Commission Piece Recently Completed

I recently completed a commissioned piece.  It was a wonderful challenge and I so loved working on this piece as it brought back memories of my childhood.  Nothing compares to the backyard hockey rink!  I worked from a photo taken by the family that commissioned the piece.  It measures 12 x 24".

'Show you Care...Bid on a Chair' - Fundraiser Brockville General Hospital Cardiovascular Program - Adirondack Chair Auction - May 30, 2013

I have been invited to paint an Adirondack Chair for the upcoming Brockville Cardiovascular Program fundraiser for 2013.  They are celebrating the 5th anniversary of the program!

In support of the program, the Brockville Cardiovascular Fundraising Committee is organizing "Show You Care...Bid on a Chair", an event where Adirondack chairs decorated by local artists will be auctioned off.

'Trip to the Cottage'
Designed and Painted by Corinne Hodgson

I donated my time and talent to paint and decorate an Adirondack chair for this fundraising event.  There will be 26 chairs completed for this fundraiser and they will be auctioned off on the evening of May 30th at Maplehurst Manor, in Maitland, ON.  Each chair will have an Artist Bio attached to it so that the lucky auction winner will have some knowledge of the artist who created it.

Tickets for the event will be on sale starting April 1, 2013 and can be purchased at the two Scotia Banks locations in  Brockville and tickets sell for $100 each.

The chair that I painted is currently on display in the window of the Picket Fences Fabric Shop located at the corner of St. Andrew Street and King Street - 71 King Street West, Brockville, ON.

Encaustic Works

One of my latest passions is working in Encaustic - a medium that is made by combining beeswax, damar resin and a colourant.  These ingredients are then heated, melted and mixed together to form the paint and is applied hot, in liquid form, to the chosen surface where it rapidly cools and sets.
