Commission Piece Recently Completed

I recently completed a commissioned piece.  It was a wonderful challenge and I so loved working on this piece as it brought back memories of my childhood.  Nothing compares to the backyard hockey rink!  I worked from a photo taken by the family that commissioned the piece.  It measures 12 x 24".

'Show you Care...Bid on a Chair' - Fundraiser Brockville General Hospital Cardiovascular Program - Adirondack Chair Auction - May 30, 2013

I have been invited to paint an Adirondack Chair for the upcoming Brockville Cardiovascular Program fundraiser for 2013.  They are celebrating the 5th anniversary of the program!

In support of the program, the Brockville Cardiovascular Fundraising Committee is organizing "Show You Care...Bid on a Chair", an event where Adirondack chairs decorated by local artists will be auctioned off.

I donated my time and talent to paint and decorate an Adirondack chair for this fundraising event.  There will be 26 chairs completed for this fundraiser and they will be auctioned off on the evening of May 30th at Maplehurst Manor, in Maitland, ON.  Each chair will have an Artist Bio attached to it so that the lucky auction winner will have some knowledge of the artist who created it.

Tickets for the event will be on sale starting April 1, 2013 and can be purchased at the two Scotia Banks locations in  Brockville and tickets sell for $100 each.

The chair that I painted is currently on display in the window of the Picket Fences Fabric Shop located at the corner of St. Andrew Street and King Street - 71 King Street West, Brockville, ON.

Encaustic Works

One of my latest passions is working in Encaustic - a medium that is made by combining beeswax, damar resin and a colourant.  These ingredients are then heated, melted and mixed together to form the paint and is applied hot, in liquid form, to the chosen surface where it rapidly cools and sets.

Spring has Sprung, I think!

I sit here looking out the window and it is sunny and looks warm!  Big change from yesterday's snow, rain, ice pellets, hail and wind!!  Spring is reluctant to make it's big debut!  I look forward to that day.

It has been some time since I update my blog and I will be doing just that today!  I have been involved in so many art activities since the fall and thought I had better update and share all that I have been up to!

On top of all the art activities we also had a new addition to our family that is taking up a lot of my time as well....Miss Hazel!  One forgets how much work a puppy is!  Oh, but she is so worth it!  Whippets are more fun than TV!
